Nature Reserve on Plantaberget

Gunniltorp is a nature reserve located on the beautiful eastern slope of Plantaberget. It encompasses pastureland, forest, and vegetated limestone plateaus.

Diverse Landscape

Plantaberget, near Kungslena, is a plateau mountain offering a diverse natural landscape.
Gunniltorp Nature Reserve spans from a cultivated limestone plateau in the east to a wooded, sloping hillside with pastureland and up to a rocky, deciduous tree-covered escarpment. The area has been used as pastureland for a long time and serves as an excellent example of the types of areas that were historically used for grazing.

Rich Biodiversity

The forested slope contains abundant fallen diabase rocks, old and robust trees, and deadwood.
Due to the relatively challenging accessibility of the area, there are conditions for a rich biodiversity of insects, fungi, and vascular plants that thrive here but are less common in the surrounding landscape. Some interesting species found here include wood cranesbill, barren strawberry, lung lichen, dark green moss, feather moss, candelabra fungus, bracket fungus, and turkeytail mushroom.
While the steeper, rocky parts of the reserve may be more challenging to navigate, the flatter lower areas are more inviting for a leisurely walk.
