A delightful trail through historically interesting areas

Holleden takes you through history, from the Bronze and Iron Ages up to 19th-century crofter life.

The trail begins and ends at Hol Church, where parking and a bus stop are available. An information board about the trail is also located at the church.

The initial kilometers pass through culturally and historically interesting land dating back to the Bronze and Iron Ages. Along the way, you'll encounter numerous burial fields and court rings, with information boards providing details about them. The flora is rich, featuring pasque flowers in spring, red fescue in summer, and heather in early autumn.

After crossing Road 1900 to the southern part of the trail, the landscape becomes more forested and hilly. You'll cross the old railway track where locomotives hauled wagons loaded with gravel from the gravel pit until the 1960s. If you're fortunate and observant, you might also spot Sweden's smallest vascular plant, the dwarf flax, growing along the trail.

At the steepest slopes, there are "rest stones" at the top, where you can take a short break if needed. At a junction, the Gotaleden hiking trail intersects with Holleden; continue following the orange markers to stay on track. Bäsjön is a great spot for a longer pause, with a barbecue area near the small lake. Shortly after this, you can choose between two paths: one along a forest road or a more hilly section over Skallafluget, where you might need to hold onto a rope to descend a steep forest area.

As you approach Hol again, consider stopping at Dahlbogården for a delightful meal or fika. If you're interested in extending your hiking adventure, there are several other trails in the area, such as the Ängatorpsrundan and the Hols gärde trail.
