Bast Fibre Craft Centre
Ödenäs

A craft museum with roots in ancient times

In Ödenäs, the traditional craft of making bags from spruce bast is still alive. In the past, it was a way to make a living during times of hardship, and even children helped out. Today, a small craft museum has been created to preserve this unique tradition.

Try traditional crafting techniques
This is a small, living museum that reflects the importance of this craft for the local community and its people. Bast fibre craft has roots dating back to ancient times. Here, you can try the technique yourself – feel the material, experience the scent of slowly boiled spruce, and even the strain in your hands.

Located just over 15 km from central Alingsås
The museum is located in the local heritage association’s building “Lagårn”, between Ödenäs school and the parish hall. For information about opening hours, please call +46 (0)322-533 71. Group visits can be booked in advance.
