The Café Town of Alingsås
Alingsås has a thriving café culture with a unique bakery history. Bakeries began to emerge already in the 18th century, and the café culture grew during the industrialization of the 19th century when women in the town started working outside the home and no longer had time to bake bread themselves. Today, the town is known as Sweden’s café town, with nearly 20 cafés—three of which are featured in the White Guide.
