Stampens Mill:
Alingsås
A well-preserved mill dating back to the early 18th century
The mill was built in 1727 and originally served as a fulling mill, where large wooden hammers were used to process wet wool by pounding and felting the fabric. The fulling mill was built on the initiative of entrepreneur Jonas Alströmer.
At the time, Alingsås was developing into one of Sweden’s first manufacturing and textile towns. This privileged position lasted until the 1760s, when the fulling mill was replaced by a flour mill – also initiated and built by Jonas Alströmer.
A cultural meeting place throughout the year
Stampens Mill is a valuable piece of local history that comes to life throughout the year with cultural experiences, including art, crafts, traditional handicrafts, photography and exhibitions. During both summer and special occasions such as the Christmas season, the mill is filled with creative works, activities and inspiring experiences from local artists and makers.
The mill is beautifully located along the river Lillån, which winds its way through central Alingsås. It can also be seen when passing by on the commuter train.
