A memorial site for the air crash in 1944

During the night of 20th October 1944, an American C-87 Liberator crashed on this site during a secret mission. All of the crew members were tragically killed.

The plane was together with four other planes on its way from Great Britain to Stockholm, as part of a secret mission called "Project Sonnie". The mission was aimed at bringing out members of the Norwegian Resistance and British arimen from Sweden to England.

The planes were meant to land in Stockholm, but were diverted to Gothenburg instead because of bad weather. Four of the planes made it safely but one crashed, still due to unknown reasons.

This memorial site was erected in 1945 and here you can read more about the plane, the crew members and more of "Project Sonnie".

Get here by turning off road 190 north of Antens chapel, and follow the signs marked "Flygmonumentet". Park your car or bike and take a short walk to the monument.
