When Eva and Pär Rittsel started their farm press, they were the first in Skaraborg. Now they are leading the way again – by letting customers press their own apples and pears. And the fruit left-overs? They are turned into a variety of goodies.
During 2011 glass artist Eva Rittsel and photographer Pär Rittsel moved from Stockholm to Hova. In the garden around their central villa, apple trees were laden with fruit in the autumn. To their astonishment there was no local press that could turn the apples into juice. The solution was to start their own juice press. The response was enormous – they soon became “Skaraborg’s first farm press” in the area.
Today the couple run their business with yet another new idea. They focus now on taking in customers who want to learn how to press their own apples and pears. The customers bring their own fruit, the Rittsels provide the premises, equipment and knowledge, and everybody has a lovely time together. It is possible to press berries that do not have hard cores too. This is done in a special juicer that the couple also have at their farm press.
Goodies from the left-overs
Juicing is a smart way to use up over-ripe fruit which otherwise would end up in the compost. Eva and Pär are thus super-smart – from the residue left over from the juice making, they produce jellies and marmalades made to their own recipes. The goodies are rich in fibre, free from preservatives and for sale at Hova Fruit Press.
In addition, the press also sells ready-made juice and other apple and pear products. Plus, they offer cordial from elderflowers, lilac blossom and elk grass, lavender marmalade made from flowers from the couple’s house in France and a range of other processed berry and fruit products.

Those who wish to press their apples or pears at Hova Fruit Press are welcome to ring and book a time. (*If instead you would like to buy ready-made produce you can do that at a Swish booth outside the couple’s villa). Sometimes Eva and Pär are also found at markets and Reko food groups in the area.
