A place where art and reality meet

Welcome to Svenstorp Art Center, a creative centre where surreal photographic art meets historical stories and local flavors. With a permanent exhibition by the internationally recognized artist Erik Johansson, an exciting guest exhibition, and a cozy café, this is a place for inspiration, reflection, and experiences.

"Still Dreaming"

There are many recurring themes in Erik Johansson’s visual worlds; nostalgia and dreams are two of them.

“It’s not in night dreams that the ideas are created, it is more often about daydreaming, about finding the logic in the impossible. Light and shadows must be correct, even when a man is conducting the weather. What does it look like if a boat remembers a storm? A boat in a boat? How do you capture a dream and how do you capture a feeling?” says Erik.

Dreams can be big or small and they are influenced by the world we live in. We invite you to an exhibition around the theme of continuing to dream, daring to follow your dreams, or most importantly, drifting away into another reality for a moment.

The exhibition for 2026 is called Still dreaming. It consists of around 50 works, 30 of which are new for the season. There will also be the premiere of several works that have not yet been published.

This year’s guest exhibition 2026: "Soviet bus stops"

In 2002 the Canadian photographer Christopher Herwig discovered his first bus stop with unexpected and spectacular architecture. It became the start of a project that would continue for more than ten years.

Herwig traveled through several former Soviet republics, from Ukraine to Uzbekistan, from Armenia to eastern Siberia and many places in between. The journey covered more than 50,000 kilometers where he documented, photographed and interviewed people along the way.

The result was the book series Soviet Bus Stops and a documentary film. In the images, the imaginative and often unexpected bus stops are presented as small architectural works of art. A tribute to the power of individual creativity, which would not be suppressed by its time.

Café

The former Månstorp Magasin moved its operations to Svenstorp Art Center and looks forward to sharing its fantastic homemade pastries and wonderful atmosphere with visitors.

They place great emphasis on quality and sustainability. Pastries, sandwiches, and drinks are prepared with care, often using ingredients from the local area. Whether visitors prefer a classic cinnamon bun or just a cup of coffee, there is something for every taste.

The café also has its own channel where daily offerings and news are updated on Instagram.

Can the dog come along?

Dogs are welcome at Svenstorp Art Center on the outdoor terrace, but not inside the café or exhibition hall. There is a water bowl, shade, and a resting area outside.
