The stone cist - Valbrets grave
Tanumshede

A fabled stone cist from about 4,000 years ago.

According to legend, a Scottish chieftain named Valbret is buried here. He is said to have been killed by the people of Tanum sometime during the Viking Age, around 1,000 years ago.

In reality, the grave was constructed at the end of the Late Stone Age, about 4,000 years ago. This type of grave is known as a stone cist. The grave was built along the seashore, which at that time reached much higher than it does today.
