Skärgårdsidyllen
Grebbestad
Grebbestad’s wild oysters – the local delicacies from the sea. From Grönemad, where Skärgårdsidyllen Kayak & Outdoor is based, it’s only a few paddle strokes to the nearest wild oyster beds. Here, you can safely and confidently move wild oysters into your kayak, feel the salt in the air, and see the oysters on the sea floor in their natural environment.
Float above wild oyster beds
From Grönemad, where Skärgårdsidyllen Kayak & Outdoor is based, it’s only a few paddle strokes to the nearest wild oyster banks. Here you can safely and confidently glide over wild oysters in your kayak, feel the salt in the air, and see the oysters on the sea floor in their natural habitat.
Grönemad is located in the heart of the area stretching from Hamburgsund in the south to Strömstad in the north, where about 90% of Sweden’s oysters are harvested. During the paddle tour, we get to know the oyster and learn about its ecosystem. We also learn how to distinguish between different species. We make a short stop on shore with the opportunity for tasting. This becomes an oyster tasting to remember.
The oyster paddling tour, including tasting, takes about 3 hours.
The best season for oysters, like all other shellfish, is all months containing an “R”, meaning from September to April. Here you can read more about winter paddling and the fine article on winter kayaking.
Due to high demand — and because an oyster is always an oyster — the tour can also be arranged on request year‑round.

Our Guides
Ingela Holgersson, one half of Skärgårdsidyllen Kayak & Outdoor, grew up in Grönemad and comes from a long line of fishermen and stonemasons rooted in Bohuslän. Ingela’s father was a fisherman, and it is in his old boathouse that Skärgårdsidyllen has its kayak center. Already at age 10, in the early 1980s, Ingela helped establish one of the earliest mussel farms in Bohuslän, and at 11 she and her older brother ran a successful eel fishing operation during the summers. This was followed by summer work aboard the trawler June af Grönemad at age 14, where they fished shrimp and crayfish. These formative summers provided life‑long experiences on and around the sea.
As an adult, Ingela returned with her husband and family to her roots and founded Skärgårdsidyllen Kayak & Outdoor in 2011. The family once again lives in harmony with the sea, and Ingela is one of the company’s appreciated guides, sharing her knowledge during the Oyster Paddling tours.
Marcus Holgersson, the other half of Skärgårdsidyllen Kayak & Outdoor, comes from a pilot family active in the St. Anna archipelago on Sweden’s east coast. This made it natural for Marcus to embrace the maritime lifestyle and to share his knowledge about the sea and coastal culture in a relaxed and enjoyable way.
