Welcome to CW Thorstensson's Mechanical Workshop

Åmål's Industrial Museum, C W Thorstenson's Mechanical Workshop, is a unique opportunity to see how a family lived and worked in the 1920s. The workshop is preserved as it was when it was founded in 1918.

History

Carl Wilhelm Thorstenson was an engineer who designed a self-cleaning threshing machine manufactured in the workshop. They also made babbits metal. The Thorstenson family lived in a small apartment in the same house as the workshop. There was also the small office where Carl Wilhelm Thorstenson created most of his work.

The exhibition

C W Thorstenson's Mechanical Workshop has been rebuilt into an industrial museum for several years. The workshop has been restored and the belt drive and the machines work as they did in the 1920s. The machines are powered by an electric motor via a belt transmission in the roof. The living quarters and office are reconstructed to the early 20th century. On the top floor there is an exhibition where a large selection of Åmål's industries, from the late 1800's to today, are presented.
