Ånimskog Church
Ånimskog
The church was built in the second half of the 13th century. The nave was probably square at first but was enlarged in the 17th and 18th centuries.
Worth seeing inside
The church room - is characterized by the 18th century provincial Baroque style. The wooden ceiling was decorated in 1739 with paintings picturing The Creation of Woman, The Fall, The Transfiguration of Christ, The Crucifixion, and The Last Judgement. The retable picturing Christ on the cross flanked by Mary and John the Apostle was made in 1729.
The pulpit - with sculptures of the apostles is from the same time. On the pulpit banisters is a wooden tablet from 1774. On the gallery parapet are paintings of Christ and the twelve apostles.
The baptismal font - in sandstone from the 13th century.
The churchyard
Is from the Middle Ages. West of the church is the grave of the artist Otto Hesselbom. The wooden bell tower was built in 1731.
