Trail running on Billingen

Billingen is a perfect place for anyone who loves trail running. Here, small trails, rich in variety, wind through forest, over ridges and down into valleys, ready to be explored in running shoes. Here, the small paths lead to the big adventures. Whether you’re chasing flow on technical sections or taking it slow and steady, there’s always a new loop to discover.

Ready, set, run!

Before you lace up your shoes, feel free to check whether any event or race is taking place on the trails today. Our exercise and trail tracks are open to everyone, but sometimes you’ll be sharing the course with runners going full speed toward new records.

Trailspåret

The trail starts alongside the other tracks at the stadium, but quickly leads you out onto smaller paths with a more untrodden feel. Despite the proximity to fitness and cycling tracks, the sense of deep forest is never far away.

The first three kilometres are gently rolling terrain, before you leave the plateau and head down the slope. Here, a fast downhill section awaits, followed by running along the hillside with a vast view. Then the elevation needs to be won back – in one sustained climb.

The surface varies from fast sections to more technical and rough stretches, so whatever you enjoy, there’s something for you along the way. The finish around Indiansön is fast, and soon you’re back where you started. Perhaps another lap?

Trailspåret is marked with reflectors – perfect for a run with a head torch.

Length: 5.4 km

Trollstigen

Trollstigen is an easily accessible trail in three sections that offers trail running through Billingen’s most dramatic surroundings. Here you run on narrow paths through forest, past scree slopes, historical sites and magnificent views.

Along the way you pass, among other things, Rhododendrondalen (the Rhododendron Valley) and the impressive diabase columns at Ryds grottor. The terrain is varied and challenging, with climbs up onto the plateau and running along Billingen’s steep edge.

Trollstigen comes in three varieties  where you can choose the distance as you go, but all of the route offers the same experience of changing natural environments and elevation.

The trail passes through Våmbs ängar, and in spring the air is filled with wild garlic while the cherry trees blossom. The surface varies from fast sections to more technical paths, so grippy shoes are an advantage. Don’t miss Skultorps Nabbe and Siggefallet, two highlights along the way.
