Locally produced lamb meat for open landscapes

To socialise with animals, keep the landscape open and produce healthy pasture-raised meat. That is the main incentive within the Grimserud’s Lamb family business. Now the fifth generation has taken over the farm.

The 1 May every year is a big day at Grimserud’s Lamb, which sits close to Lake Viken outside Beateberg. That’s when the farm’s 160 ewes and their little woolly lambs are released out into the green pastures in front of hundreds of visitors. The lamb release is combined with a spring market and has become a popular tradition. After this day the animals go on to graze in the hilly, heath-like landscape for the rest of the season.

Natural driving force

Natural grazing creates open landscape, healthy animals and high-quality meat. These are important factors for Simon Bergh, who has just taken over the family farm in Grimserud and this is the fifth generation to farm the land and live in tune with the seasons here.

During the colder periods of the year the animals go indoors. Then they feed on hay and silage that is grown on the farm without pesticides or artificial fertilizers.

Flexible farm shop

In the little farm shop by the animal stalls there is lamb meat for sale almost all year around. Grimserud’s Lamb offers a variety of cuts as well as sausages and lambskins. They also sell horticultural wool, used for cover when growing crops. Occasionally Grimserud’s Lamb is also seen at markets and other events. Then they often have lamb-burgers or whole roast lamb for sale.

At the moment the farm shop has no regular opening times. Those who want to shop should just ring! When Simon is there he will happily open up for both new and returning customers.
