Limtorget

Culture and history meet in Lidköping’s oldest quarter

Limtorget, the lime square, is the sole remaining part of the old township which escaped the great fire of 1849. It is through this quarter that remains of the old road to Skara, Götene and Kinnekulle can be found. The name Limtorget probably stems from the times when quicklime, a mortar used in building, was sold there.

Limtorget’s houses date back to the middle ages. Some remain in use as dwellings, while others house a café, a local history and heritage association, a printing press museum and a crafts studio.
