Otterstad kyrka
Kållandsö
Otterstad Church was completed in 1854, replacing the earlier medieval church that was demolished during the construction of the present building.
History of the Church
The original Otterstad Church stood approximately 700 metres south of the present church, near Ullersund. It is believed to have been built during the 12th or 13th century. When the new church was constructed in 1854, the medieval church was demolished.
Building materials for the new church were reused from St. Catherine's Chapel, Senäte Church, and the old church at Otterstad.
Church Furnishings
Among the church's most notable features is the altarpiece, painted by Ludvig Frid in 1896. It depicts Christ giving His blessing.
The medieval baptismal font from the former church has also been preserved and placed inside the present church.
The pulpit and organ gallery were built as part of the original construction of the church in 1854.
The communion silver dates from the 17th and 18th centuries. Parts of the collection were donated in 1754 by Carl Gustav Tessin and his wife, Ulrika Louise Sparre.
The church also contains two historic chandeliers, one of which is made of brass and dates from the 17th century.
Three bells hang in the church tower, including one that originally belonged to Senäte Church. It bears an inscription together with the initials of the noble families Natt och Dag and Posse.
Embedded in the tower floor are three gravestones from the old church, one of which still bears a partially legible inscription dated 1709.
