Senäte kyrkoruin

Senäte Church was built in the mid-12th century. Originally a Romanesque medieval church, it underwent several alterations over the centuries before eventually falling into ruin.
Fire and Demolition
The church was destroyed by fire during the 17th century. In the 18th century, the Bratt family burial chapel was built, and today it is the only surviving structure from the original church.
The church itself was demolished in 1843, and many of its stones were reused in the construction of Otterstad Church, completed in 1854. One of the church bells and the medieval baptismal font were also transferred to the new church.
The Site Today
Today, the location of the former church is marked out with stones, while the burial chapel was restored as recently as 1971. The burial grounds have continued to be used by the owners of Senäte Manor.
The site of Senäte Chapel enjoys a beautiful natural setting, offering panoramic views across Fröfjorden and towards Kinnekulle.

By Bus (Västtrafik)
You can reach the Senäte Church Ruins by taking Västtrafik bus route 132 between Lidköping and Spiken. Get off at the bus stop Korsvägen.
