Stay in a genuine fishing village

Situated at the entrance to the coastal village of Grundsund is Grundéns Hotell on the island of Skaftö. Grundsund has been a fishing village for hundreds of years, with its long inlet around which the village has developed. With the North Sea as its neighbour, the hotel is just 10 minutes from the village’s classic west coast restaurants and shops.

Check-in with electronic keys

Grundéns Hotell offers 10 well-appointed double rooms and one family room, with breakfast included. Each room has a TV, toilet, and shower, as well as a hairdryer, bathmat, shampoo, and soap. An ironing board and iron are available on request. Bicycles are also available. The hotel has large outdoor areas, a barbecue section, and patios – all in a beautiful Bohuslän setting.

Grundéns is a personal but unmanned hotel, which means that "self check-in" and electronic keys are the preferred methods. The key goes to the entrance and to your room.

Hike or cycle on Skaftö

Skaftö and Grundsund offer beautiful walking trails, cycle routes, bathing beaches, granite rocks, cosy fishing villages, incredible views, and nature in abundance. A number of cycling and hiking paths are interlinked in certain places with the Bohuslän Coastal Path. You can rent a bike and set off on a journey of discovery or book a certified guide to walk you around the island. There are sea-based activities on offer all year round, even during the low season, including lobster fishing, sauna bathing, and kayaking. You can even go on a shopping trip to Torp Köpcentrum, just 40 minutes away by bus.

In the middle of the island there is the highly popular Vägeröds Dalar Nature Reserve and in the south-west is the enormous Islandsberg promontory, reaching out to the open sea and with a former lighthouse keeper’s cottage at the very tip.

First-class fish and seafood

If fish and seafood at its freshest and best is what you are looking then this is the place. With a view across the North Sea, you always have a front row seat regardless of whether you book a table in an unassuming local eating establishment or a gourmet restaurant. Opening hours can vary during the low season.

Making your way there

Bus 845 from Uddevalla to Skaftö stops 100 metres from the hotel at the ‘Islandsbergsvägen’ stop in Grundsund. The passenger ferry Carl Wilhelmsson 847 from Lysekil takes just 12 minutes. Disembark on the east side and take the 845 bus to Grundsund.
