Berga

Medieval church on a hill

A medieval church built of stone in the middle of the ancient village Berga.

The original church was built in the 12th or 13th century and got its current appearance in the 17th and 18th centuries when rebuilding took place.

The church is located on a hill in the ancient village. Surrounded by burial grounds from the Iron Age and earlier.

The church consists of a rectangular nave with a church tower to the west and an octagonal chancel to the east and north of the chancel is the sacristy. The roof of the tower is covered with wood shavings and its spire is covered with sheet metal, which is crowned with a rooster. The organ was manufactured in 1916 by H. Nordfors in Lidköping and has five parts.
