Bredsäter church
Bredsäter

Wooden church on the countryside

Just over 10 kilometers southwest of Mariestad, between Lugnås and the former castle Aranäs is Bredsäter's church. A red wooden church with a freestanding belfry built in 1666.

There has previously been a stave church on the same site and from this the bell tower's large bell is preserved as well as 38 boards with paintings from the late 15th century. Of these boards, 8 are left in the church, while the rest can be seen at Västergötland's museum in Skara.

Bredsäter's church is sometimes also mentioned as a chapel church and both externally and internally it testifies to good folk culture.

This church was an important sacrificial church until the 1880s.
