Dog-friendly beach at Sandviken

Many dogs love to swim. In Mariestad, there are two beaches where dogs are welcome.

Many dogs love a good swim, and in Mariestad they're welcome to join in the fun. The municipality offers two designated dog-friendly beaches where you and your four-legged companion can enjoy a refreshing dip together.

With 140 kilometres of beautiful shoreline along Lake Vänern, Mariestad is full of scenic bays, beaches, and rocky outcrops. While dogs are not always allowed at the public bathing beaches, they are welcome at the designated dog beaches in Sandviken and Ekudden.

Dog-friendly beaches in Mariestad

Sandviken

Sandviken is located about 4 kilometres southwest of Mariestad town centre, next to the golf course.

A map at the car park shows the location of the dog beach. From there, continue past the main beach to the next bathing cove, where you'll find the designated dog-friendly area. The walk is approximately 350 metres through the beautiful Sandviken Nature Reserve.

The beach features soft sand with rocky areas along the sides, making it a pleasant place for both dogs and their owners.

Dry toilets are available at the main Sandviken beach.

Ekudden

Ekudden Beach is located about 2 kilometres from Mariestad town centre, adjacent to Ekudden Camping.

This popular recreational area offers a sandy beach, grassy lawns, rocky shoreline, and a playground. The designated dog beach is located approximately 250 metres north of the main beach and is clearly signposted.

Toilet is available during summer time by the camping reception.

Whether your dog enjoys splashing in the shallows or swimming in open water, Mariestad's dog-friendly beaches provide the perfect setting for a day by the lake.
