The following fishing methods are permitted:
-
Trolling for salmon and trout.
-
Spinning, bait fishing and trolling for pike, perch and zander.

Lake Vristulven

A fishing licence is required at Vristulven.
Tidan lower fishing conservation area
The River Tidan is home to common species of coarse fish, as well as ide and chub, which are well suited to bait fishing. Pike and perch are also common. More unusual species include the native Tidan trout and asp. Both species must always be released.
In Mariestad, all fishing is prohibited in the stretch of river from the bridge on Göteborgsvägen to Marieholmsbron from 1 January to 25 May.
The closed season for zander applies to the entire Tidan Lower Fishing Conservation Area and runs from 25 April to 25 May. The minimum size for zander is 45 cm.
A fishing licence is required in the River Tidan.
Tidan–Karleby Fishing Conservation Area
Another fishing conservation area is located in the River Tidan, south of the E20 bridge. Fishing is only permitted from the shore using handheld sport-fishing rods.
A fishing licence is required.
Sibirien Put & Take Fishing
This easily accessible fishing area is located at Karlsfält farm, 12 km north of Mariestad, and offers rainbow trout fishing.
Two of the lakes are open to spinning, bait fishing and fly fishing, while one is reserved exclusively for fly fishing.
A maximum of three fish may be kept per fishing licence.
General advice for anglers
-
Never keep more fish than you and your family can eat.
-
Immediately dispatch any fish you intend to keep.
-
Carefully release any fish you do not wish or are not permitted to keep.
-
Avoid handling fish with dry hands, as this can damage their protective mucus layer.
-
If possible, avoid lifting fish out of the water when releasing them. This causes considerable stress and can unnecessarily increase mortality.
