Bath and recreation by Sandviken

About four kilometres from the city center lies Sandviken nature reserve just by the coast of Vänern.

Sandviken consists of multiple swimming areas, and the proximity to Mariestad ensures that the reserve is important for recreation. There's a several walking trails that goes around in the reserve. Sandviken is about 45 hectare and became a municipal nature reserve in 2007.

You're welcome to visit but keep in mind that it is not allowed to:

  • Damage or remove dead trees
  • Cut down trees and bushes, break twigs and branches, or in any way damage the vegetation
  • Pick or dig up grasses, herbs, mosses, lichen, or mushrooms. It is however allowed to pick berries, edible mushrooms, and flowers
  • Make a fire other than at marked fireplaces. The usage of portable stoves is allowed.
  • Climb in lived-in trees, gather insects, or in any other way disturb the wildlife on purpose
  • Use a motor vehicle anywhere but the official road
  • Bike or ride anywhere put on the specific paths
  • Camp, bring a trailer
  • Bring posters, placards, or other such things
