The Dalsland Nordmarken lake system

There are about a hundred campsites within the Dalsland Nordmarken lake system. The non-profit organization DANO has invested in these to protect our fragile nature and to provide visitors with the best possible experience. The sites are chosen with consideration for plant and animal life and in agreement with the landowners.

Most sites today have a wind shelter, all have a permanent fireplace, and an ecological toilet. Firewood is usually available at the campsites for the guests to use. The wood must be cut and split. Please note that it may only be used in the existing approved fireplaces at each campsite. This service is funded through the sale of Nature Conservation Cards.

Själaskjulen - unique bookable shelters

With two unique, site-specific wooden shelters, the aim is to enrich the nature experience and inspire more people to venture into the wild. The Själaskjulen (“The Soul Huts”) project also provides an opportunity to tell the story of DANO’s work with sustainable canoe tourism in a broader context, while considering how the new campsites meet the needs of today's tourists.

Nature Conservation Card

The card gives you the right to use the services in the lake system. The Nature Conservation Card can be purchased online or from the canoe rental service. Staying at a campsite cannot be compared to staying at a campground. The campsites are in the heart of nature, and visitors are subject to nature’s conditions. They cannot be reserved, and you can only stay one night at any given site. Most campsites offer, in addition to shelters, a few tent sites.
