For many, cycling along the Göta Canal is a dream holiday. Long stretches of car-free paths offer easy cycling, with locks, boats and beautiful countryside unfolding through varied landscapes that are charming in every season.
One of the easiest ways to enjoy life along the canal is to cycle the historic towpath beside the Göta Canal. In total, there are 87 km of car-free route where you can watch boats pass through the locks, pet the canal sheep or enjoy a picnic by the water as boats glide by at a leisurely pace.
Cycling is of course possible in winter too, but please note that the towpath is not always cleared of snow. This page mainly inspires spring, summer and autumn cycling.
