Hiking on Kållandsö
Kållandsö offers a fantastic environment for hiking with its varied trails that provide scenic views and cultural experiences. Here you’ll find beautiful routes of varying lengths and terrain, whether you're looking for a short walk or a full-day excursion.
Roparudden
Start your hike at the Läckö Castle parking lot and follow the 4 km long trail that winds through forest and rocky terrain with fantastic views over Lake Vänern and Läckö Castle. For a shorter walk, there is "Nature Fun for All” – an accessibility-adapted path with fun activities for both children and adults. With some luck, you might spot an osprey or a sea eagle!
Kinneviken
The easternmost hiking trail is called Kinneviken and is a 3 km long path. It begins along a wide trail through dense spruce forest, then emerges on a cliff edge with beautiful views over Kinneviken, stunning in all weather, with Kinnekulle in the background. The trail starts at Läckö Strand, which offers accommodation, a café, and a cozy shop.
Fröfjorden
West of Fröfjorden, starting at Otterstad Church, there is a trail rich in history that is 5 km long. The Fröfjorden Trail runs through a varied cultural landscape with grazed shore meadows, rich birdlife, and several ancient oaks. Along the trail, you’ll pass more historical sites such as Bronze Age rock carvings, the old Otterstad church site, and the stately Otterstad Church.
Kleversbergen
The Kleversbergen hiking trail also begins from Otterstad Church. It is 3.5 km long and quite hilly, but the view awaiting you at the top is worth the effort. From here, you get an overview of the entire Fröfjorden and understand why an observation tower was once built here.
Traneberg
The Traneberg Trail on western Kållandsö is approximately 12 km long and divided into two loops. The northern loop is 6.2 km and the southern loop is 8.4 km. You’ll hike through varied terrain with both forest and lakeside views and enjoy rich flora and fauna. Start at Läckö Golf Club – perfect for a bite to eat before or after your hike.
Stora Eken
On the island of Stora Eken, there’s a 6 km long hiking trail on the island’s western side, mostly running near the lake through hilly terrain. The island has rich wildlife with plenty of berries and mushrooms. You can only reach the island by water, and there is a small dock for small boats and kayaks.
