A manor with exotic trees and a wonderful old-fashioned rose garden

Enjoy a lovely walk in the exceptional park at Hellekis Säteri (Manor), a manor set among unusual deciduous trees and magnificent flowerbeds. Enjoy the manor’s magnificent rose garden, flowerbeds full of perennials and the café’s delicious food and pastries.

Linnaeus’s walnut trees and 150 perennials

Hellekis Manor is steeped in ancient traditions and was mentioned as early as 1746 by Carl Linnaeus during his travels in Västgötaland. He mentioned the Hellekis walnut trees at that time, and there are still a few left which together produce as many as 10,000 nuts in a season. The park also boasts the stately ginkgo tree, poplar magnolia, trumpet tree and Spanish chestnut.

Hellekis Manor is situated in cultivation zone 1, where there are perennial flowerbeds with over 150 different species of lush plants that thrive in the lime-rich, fertile soil.

The magnificent rose garden with its many traditional roses was founded in 1936 and is one of the attractions not to be missed on a visit here. These parts of the garden are open to visitors from May to September for a small entrance fee, so enjoy the shifting colours of the seasons from the spring bulbs to the stunning palette in the autumn.

The large greenhouse functions as a gallery where you can see exhibitions of different artists’ paintings and photographs during the open season. Browse for a bargain among the curiosities for sale in the small greenhouse. Click here to visit the Hellekis Manor website.

The forge and the Hellekis Restaurant and Café

Nearby you’ll find the Hellekis Restaurant and Café which serves a wide selection of delicacies from delicious cakes to tasty wild garlic soup. The old forge has been converted into a party venue which can be rented for wedding receptions, family parties and other celebrations. It can cater for up to 95 guests.
