Ullervad-Leksberg’s home village association
Karleby

Culturally historic countryside with an exciting history

Ullervad-Leksberg home village association consists of the five old parishes Ek, Ekby, Leksberg, Ullervad and Utby all that is located south of Mariestad. In the middle of the well-preserved Karleby is the beautiful Persgården with its old buildings and herb garden.

The home village association started 1975 with the restoration of one of Karleby's oldest buildings, Persgården. Today the association has around 700 members. Several activities and events are organized here during the year. Don't miss walking the 2.5 km long Kulturstigen that starts at Persgården.

Midsummer celebration

The biggest activity of the year is the midsummer celebration, which is very well attended, where the old traditions are kept alive. Fiddlers, folk dancing, games and a well-attended coffee service. Raising of the beautifully decorated midsummer pole during violin playing and excited anticipation from children and adults.

Christmas market

For the Christmas market, there is home baked goods from the stone oven in Persgården, lotteries, coffee and mulled wine to warm up with and goods in the stalls. The Christmas goats in spruce are popular and taken quickly.

The cultural path

The cultural path - "Kulturstigen". Starting from the home village, there is an approx. 2.5 km long trail that goes through beautiful flower gardens and forest with old crofts and other cultural monuments such as wolf pits and lynx pits. Along the path there are about forty signs with explanatory text and pictures.

Soldier's barn

Outside Karleby is Lorenzberg's soldier barn, which the association had restored in 2011. An exceptionally well-preserved building. The barn is part of the Kulturstigen.

The church site

During the years 1987-1989, excavation of Karleby's old church site was carried out in collaboration with the County Museum. The foundations of two churches and a cemetery, which are among the oldest in Sweden, were found here.

At Persgården there are two toilets that are open when the association has activities.
