Some history
The association Folkets Hus in Hamburgsund was founded on the 21st February 1904. It was the stonecutters who needed a venue for their trade-union meetings, cultural meetings, lectures and movie screenings etc.
Folkets Hus was inaugurated on the 15th March 1908. It would host markets, Christmas parties, Easter parties, Sunday dance events, lectures and auctions, apart from the normal meetings. A library was also set up, and some parts of it still remain today.
Eventually the house became too small. A reconstruction was made in 1930 for 13 000 kr. This gave the house a new basement, wood stove, terrace, and swing doors.
In 1985 it was time for another reconstruction. This renovation cost 2,3 million kr. In 1989 they built the large hall of mirrors for 1,3 million kr. In 2002 the latest renovation was made. For half a million kr the house got a new entrance, cafeteria, kiosk and new equipment.
