Resö

Resö located in Tanum Municipality archipelago. Along the island's beaches you can get a guided tour of Kosterhavet - Sweden's first marine national park.

You reach Resö via a bridge from the mainland or by boat. Here you can find a map of Resö.
Within comfortable boating distance lies the nature reserve Trossö–Kalvö–Lindö.

Resö is the southern entrance to the Kosterhavet Marine National Park, and in the harbor you will find the newly built Entré Resö, with its own jetty, a nice exhibition about sustainable fishing, a play ship, and restrooms.

Resö Harbor & Guest Harbor

Resö Harbor still has an active fishing fleet, including several shellfish trawlers.
Resö also has a guest harbor with about 40 berths. Entry from the north. The guest harbor offers full service facilities with a boat crane, fresh water, toilets, showers, a laundry room, and a sewage pump‑out station.
There is also a ramp for launching and retrieving smaller boats.
The guest harbor can be reached at hamnen@reso.se and +46 72‑707 85 54.

Experiences & Attractions

Both Resö and the neighboring island Galtö have pleasant walking trails.
Resö has a special walking map that guides you to culturally and historically interesting sites, complete with information signs.
On the island you will also find small shops selling locally grown vegetables, home décor, clothes, and more.

At Kyrkvikens Family Campsite, you can stay simply and beautifully right by the sea or in the middle of the pine forest. The location may be one of the best on the West Coast. The campsite offers both permanent seasonal pitches and regular camping spots, and you can come with your own tent, motorhome, or caravan.

At the far end of the harbor, directly connected to “the sea’s E6,” stands the Hamnmagasinet, built in 1999 at the initiative of the local community association. The building serves as an event and gathering space. During summer, it hosts a restaurant run by Lexö på Resö, which also operates a pizza stand on the large terrace by the sea. During the rest of the year, it functions as a charming hostel.

Panget på Resö was founded in the 1940s by two siblings. Although there are no longer any lodging options here, the business lives on as a summer bakery and café.

On Holmsbacken lies “Johan’s Farm”. Johan Hilmersson lived and worked on Resö his entire life until 1972, and today his old home serves as a local heritage museum. Johan’s Farm is also the site of the island’s traditional Midsummer celebrations.

Resö Church was built between 1913–1916 with funds collected by the island’s residents. The exterior is clad with tarred oak shingles, and the saddle roof is made of wood covered with red tiles. Inside, the décor is Jugendstil (Art Nouveau), the baptismal font from 1915 is made of granite, and the church bell dates back to 1576.

Swimming Areas

Resö has many beautiful swimming spots with both sandy beaches and rocky shores.
At Hamneholmen, there is also a swimming pier and a diving tower.

Entré Resö – Gateway to Kosterhavet Marine National Park

On Resö you’ll find the southern gateway to Kosterhavet Marine National Park. Entré Resö is located next to Resö Harbor, with its own jetty where tour boats and leisure boats can dock to visit the exhibition or shop at the nearby grocery store.
The entrance includes an exhibition on sustainable fishing, a play ship, and restrooms. Along the shores of Resö, you can join a guided tour about Kosterhavet, which in 2009 became Sweden’s first marine national park. During a guided walk, you’ll learn more about biodiversity and the life hidden beneath the surface. You can also read more about the national park and its offerings via the link to Kosterhavet.

History & Curiosities

As early as the 1600s, farmers who also fished likely lived on Resö.
The population increased during the 1800s, and two coastal settlements emerged: at Torgelsholmen in the northeast and at Västra Stranden opposite the island of Bissen.

When fishing grew in importance during the 1900s, there were, for example, 26 fishing boats registered on Resö in the mid‑1930s.

Around 1980, a local builder constructed several apartments on Resö, making it possible for young people to remain on the island. The residents of Resö have worked actively and succeeded in reversing the trend from depopulation to a vibrant community.
