Kinnekulle Trail in Three Days with Organized Accommodation

We have put together itinerary suggestions for those who want to hike the Kinnekulle Trail in three days with accommodation at B&Bs/Hostels.

Below you can find two suggested itineraries with different starting points:

Suggestion 1:  Trolmen-Hällekis-Lasses Grotta-Trolmen

Suggestion 2: Högkullen-Lasses Grotta-Trolmen-Högkullen

 

Suggestion 1: Trolmen-Hällekis-Lasses Grotta-Trolmen

Hike Day 1 – Trolmen - Hällekis

The first day of hiking takes you from Trolmen to Hällekis. Be sure to start your hike by crossing the railway and heading towards Trolmen’s harbour. Along this stage, you’ll experience several of Kinnekulle’s most famous attractions such as the Munch Meadows, the Grand Quarry, and the beautiful Hellekis Manor. If you choose to stay at Kinnekulle Camping, the stage ends there; otherwise, you continue and take a 2.5 km detour to the village of Hällekis where the other two accommodation options for this stage are located.

Hike Day 2 – Hällekis – Lasses cave, Husaby

The hiking stage for the second day takes you from Hällekis up to the top of Kinnekulle with beautiful views and then continues through the stunning limestone pavement landscape on Österplana nature preserve. The hike also passes Martorps waterfall and ends at Lasses cave. The overnight stay for this stage is located in Husaby, 1.2 km from the trail, where you will find impressive sights such as Husaby Church and the Bishop’s Castle.

Hike Day 3 - Lasses cave, Husaby - Trolmen

The last day of the hike goes from Lasses cave on through the beautiful Halla Nature Reserve and further through Blomberg with its rock carvings before reaching another lovely natural area, Västerplana Storäng. Finally, the charming village of Trolmen is passed before reaching the station, and you have completed the entire Kinnekulle Trail.

Suggestion 2: Högkullen-Lasses Grotta-Trolmen-Högkullen

Hike Day 1 Högkullen – Lasses cave, Husaby

This stage begins at Högkullen, the top of Kinnekulle, and takes you towards Lasses cave. Make sure to turn left and descend just above Kinnekullegården’s café to start your hike in the right direction. From Lasses cave, it’s a short 1.2 km detour to Husaby where the accommodation and two noteworthy sights are located. Along the way, you will pass Österplana nature preserve and Martorps waterfall.

Hike Day 2 – Lasses cave, Husaby - Trolmen

The second stage of the hike goes from Lasses cave to Trolmen, where there are two accommodation options to choose from right near the trail. Along the way, you pass the charming village of Blomberg and the nature Reserve, Västerplana Storäng.

Stage length: 15 km
Time: 4 h

Hike Day 3 – Trolmen - Högkullen
The final stage goes from Trolmen back to Högkullen. Along the way, you pass several of Kinnekulle’s famous attractions, such as the noble deciduous forest park the Munch Meadow, the impressive Grand Quarry, and Hellekis Manor, before you can finish your wonderful hike.
