Kinnekulle Trail in Three Days with Shelter Accommodation

Suggested hikes for those who want to hike the Kinnekulle Trail in three days with accommodation in shelters.

Below you can find two tour suggestions with different starting points:

Suggestion 1: Trolmen-Högkullen-Lasses Grotta-Trolmen

Suggestion 2: Blomberg-Stenbrottet-Österplana-Blomberg

 

Suggestion 1: Trolmen-Högkullen-Lasses Grotta-Trolmen

Hike Day 1 – Trolmen - Högkullen

Cross the railway at Trolmen’s picturesque station and head towards Lake Vänern, reaching the cosy Råbäck Harbour. Sights along this stretch appear like a string of pearls, including The Munch Meadow and The Grand Quarry, before the ascent towards the top begins and the night’s shelter where fantastic views awaits.

Hike Day 2 – Högkullen - Lasses Cave, Husaby
This day’s hike passes Österplana with its beautiful limestone pavement landscape and the Martorps waterfall. Toward the end, the trail goes through forests and fields before reaching Lasses cave, where the night’s accommodation is located just below it.

Hike Day 3 - Lasses Grotta - Trolmen
The last day of the hike goes through the beautiful Halla Nature Reserve and the charming village of Blomberg. Don’t miss the rock carvings and perhaps a detour to the harbour where the ship Sigrid Storråda can be found. The trail then leads through Västerplana storäng before the forest and finally the views from the lovely village of Trolmen bring you downhill to the end of your hike.

Suggestion 2: Blomberg-Stenbrottet-Österplana-Blomberg

Hike Day 1 Blomberg-Stenbrottet

The hike starts northwards towards Västerplana Storäng, and along the way you pass the cosy Råbäck Harbour and beautiful limestone quarries before reaching the Grand Quarry through the Munch Meadows.

Accommodation: Camping or shelter just north of the Grand Quarry where there are also toilets and plenty of barbecue spots

Time: 5 h

Hike Day 2 – Stenbrottet-Österplana

This hiking day starts northwards towards Hellekis Manor and the stunning Söckeviken before the ascent begins towards Högkullen, Kinnekulle’s highest point. After that, you head towards the limestone pavement and the overnight stay at Österplana Hed.

Accommodation: Österplana Nature preserve, there’s both a forest shelter and a rest cabin.

Hike Day 3 – Österplana-Blomberg

The final day of hiking passes Martorps waterfall down towards Lasses cave. If you have the energy, a 1.2 km detour to Husaby is recommended, where several impressive attractions such as the church with its double towers and the spring where Olof Skötkonung is said to have been baptized.
