Vandra i Valle - Hiking in Valle
Skara
Towards the western slope of Mount Billingen, the inland ice left behind the distinctive Valle area—a lake‑rich, gently undulating, came landscape. In this varied terrain, the hiking trails wind through meadows, pastures, and fields, and you’ll pass through broadleaf woodland with views over countless lakes.
Trails in a changing landscape
On the western side of the Billingen plateau lies the beautiful Valle area, featuring over 60 km of waymarked trails. The region contains numerous nature reserves, famous for their many cherry trees that bloom for a couple of weeks each May.
The paths traverse a shifting, fairytale‑like scenery, sometimes with grazing animals nearby. Certain sections may require boots or wellies during wetter seasons. Most routes are rated easy to moderate in difficulty. At a leisurely pace, you can cover about 3-5 km in an hour.
Several route options
Valle offers seven different tour suggestions, ranging from 2 km to 9 km. You can also combine these into a longer hike—because all the trails are interconnected! The longer Billingeleden also passes through the area.
1 - Flämsjön runt (Around lake Flämsjön) ca 9 km
2 - Jättadalen ca 5 km
3 - Torp ca 3 km
4 - Höjentorp ca 3 km
5 - Drottningkullen 2-3 km
6 - Ökull ca 4 km
7 - Ljungstorp ca 4-5 km
8 - Ramlaklevrundan ca 21 km
The number in front of each trail represents the trail number in the printed map.
Diverse Nature
The hiking trails in Valle pass through ever‑changing landscapes. In Jättadalen you walk along the cliff edge and towering diabase columns; in Höjentorp the ground turns white with wild garlic blossoms in early summer; and from Bockaskede Ridge you have views toward the neighboring mountain Kinnekulle. Most striking of all are the tens of thousands of cherry trees that bloom here for a couple of glorious weeks in May—don’t forget your picnic basket, as there are plenty of beautiful spots to stop and dine.
