Hentorp Burial Field
Skövde

A lush and calm burial field

Hentorp Burial Field can be found on the southeast edge of Skövde. This gem might feel remote, but it is still close to the city. It’s the ideal place to discover history.

Hentorp Burial Field is a beautiful archaeological feature, and with 130 graves is one of Skaraborg’s larger burial fields. It contains 126 round stone ships and four cairns, and dates back to the Iron Age (approximately 500-1050 AD).

The graves can be difficult to see because of the lush vegetation, but the area carries an old history.

Over the centuries, the burial field has been used by farmers from the nearby village of Våmb. This cultural environment therefore includes valuable traces of ancient agricultural practices, including meadows and fields. The local countryside is green and leafy, and the most beautiful time of the year to visit Hentorp Burial Field is in the spring, when the wood anemones between the stone settings reflect the bright sunlight.
