The islands outside of Gothenburg are perfect for beach activities. There are almost unlimited opportunities for fishing, swimming, sunbathing and diving. And boat trip is always an adventure.
The northern islands of Gothenburg is accessible by car, bus and bike on highway 155 towards Hisingen/Öckerö and the Lilla Varholmen ferry terminal. There are two car ferries, Hönö/Öckerö or Björkö both free of charge. During the summer there is a direct boat from Stenpiren and Eriksberg, Gothenburg to Hönö Klåva.
In the archipelago there are several walking paths, joggingand hiking trails. Most often those in hilly terrain have breathtaking views of the sea and surrounding archipelago. Most of these trails are very well kept and offers a number of outdoor grills, picnic areas and viewpoints.
You can choose between several cozy restaurants and cafes located near the water. Fish of all sorts is considered traditional food on the west coast of Sweden. There are therefore several restaurants serving these traditional dishes, often consisting of freshly caught seafood, but also homemade pasteries and other local and seasonal food, which can be enjoyed with a refreshing drink close to the sea
Shopping by the sea is a lovely option for those who enjoy adorable shops with a personal touch in a breathtakingly beautiful coastal environment. Most shops are located close to the guest ports on the different islands. Hönö Klåva is the most prominent shopping district in the archipelago with shops open all year round.
If you want to have guest service, ports and pulse, there are many harbours to stay in. The ports are very active with both commercial and recreational fishermen.
If you wish to stay overnight for a day or two- youth hostels, hotel or B&B are options for your choice. There are also a variety of conference rooms and banquet facilities for weddings or celebrations.
