Kungsberget - The king mountain
Åmål

Viewpoint and park

In the center of Åmål you will find Kungsberget. A viewpoint and park with a beautiful view of the city. On the hill is also a church.

The Gallow Hill

In the 17th century, the city's execution site and foxes were here. Then the place was called "Galjåsen" (The Gallow Hill) This was a well-chosen place for a punishment and execution venue. Since the middle ages, Åmåls market was placed here, just at the foot of the hill.

Kungsberget (the king mountain)

In the middle of the 19th century, the site was transformed into a park. The mountain had become an attraction when "kungsstenen" (the king stone) was erected. They choose the more appropriate name "Kungsberget" (the king’s mountain) for the park. In 1948, another stone was raised. This time over the soldiers who died in the 30-year war.

Parking lot

You can drive up to the mountain where there is a parking lot adjacent to the church. There are also stairs up to the mountain from several sides. Here you have beautiful views of Åmål and Norra Viken.
