On Saturday, 9 August, you are welcome to Hjo City Park to experience this year’s British Motor Meet. You’ll get to see British cars lined up in a classic vehicle exhibition. A fun-filled day with music, prizes, and stunning cars awaits.

PROGRAMME BRITISH MOTOR MEET 2025

• 08:00 - 10:00 – Enthusiast cars arrive at the City Park.
• 08:30 - 16:00 – Live music begins on the main stage and continues throughout the day.
• 09:00 - 15:00 – Light refreshments and coffee/tea available.
• 11:00 - 11:30 – Official opening of British Motor Meet 2025.

BRITISH AUTOMOTIVE HISTORY

Even before the year 1900, cars and motorcycles were being manufactured in the United Kingdom. However, it took a few more years before motoring gained widespread popularity, primarily due to the lack of roads suited to motor traffic. It was not until the end of the First World War that vehicle production gained momentum and the road network was expanded. By 1923, one million vehicles were on British roads, nearly half of which were motorcycles.

During the interwar period, there were around thirty British car and motorcycle manufacturers. Exports flourished, not least to Sweden. Many of the brands produced during this time have since become classics. Some are still in production, albeit under foreign ownership. Among the now-defunct car brands are AC, Alvis, Armstrong-Siddeley, Austin, Healey, MG, and Triumph. Of the many motorcycles, enthusiasts remember BSA, Norton, Ariel, and many more.

The European automotive industry has continuously faced fierce competition, particularly from Southeast Asia. Repeated strikes in the British industry led to several manufacturers closing down or being taken over by foreign owners.

Many British car and motorcycle brands, both defunct and those still in production, are regarded by enthusiasts as classic vehicles. The British Motor Meet association, along with numerous brand clubs, preserves their legacy and proudly showcases them to the public.

ABOUT THE JAGUAR E-TYPE

In 2021, the Jaguar E-Type celebrated its 60th anniversary. The celebration is a recurring event at the British Motor Meet every ten years. Since BMM was cancelled in 2021 due to the pandemic, the car model was instead celebrated in 2022.

The Jaguar E-Type was produced between 1961 and 1975. It was introduced as a relatively affordable sports car considering its performance. The concept—a two-seater, rear-wheel-drive, small and lightweight design combined with a powerful engine ranging from a 3.8-litre straight-six with triple carburettors to a 5.3-litre V12—proved successful both on racetracks worldwide and on the streets. Approximately 70,000 cars were produced.
