Exhibition Exceptionally Healthy and Fresh

Come along to the bathing culture in Hjo from over a hundred years ago.

Join us on a journey to the bathing culture and the health-promoting life in Hjo over a hundred years ago. With photographs and an advertisement brochure from 1899 as guides, we gain insight into Hjo's pride for over 50 years – Hjo Water Spa.

ABOUT HJO WATER SPA

In 1878, Hjo Water Spa was inaugurated. A large bath park was established, and in the subsequent years, several villas with guest rooms for spa visitors were built. Among other treatments, guests were prescribed natural and artificial mineral waters, mud baths, tar baths, and electric treatments. However, a visit to the spa did not only entail sacrifices.

Visitors took part in excursions or relaxed in the Society Salon. If not strolling in the bath park, they might have played lawn tennis with enthusiastic opponents. At the Bellevue bath restaurant, they enjoyed delightful three-course dinners while savoring the view
