Stops along the way
📍 Start: Hjo town centre
Begin your day in the heart of Hjo, our picturesque wooden town on the shores of Lake Vättern. Settle into one of the town's cafés with its own bakery and enjoy a delicious breakfast in charming surroundings. The perfect start to a day full of local flavours.
📍 Vätternsparris – World-class white asparagus
Just south of Hjo, near Norra Fågelås Church, you'll find Vätternsparris. During spring and until around the end of June, you can buy freshly harvested white asparagus straight from the farm. A seasonal delicacy that adds something special to any meal.
📍 Almnäs Bruk – Award-winning cheese from Hjo
Visit the self-service farm shop at Almnäs Bruk, where you'll find exceptional, award-winning cheeses. This is where the historic Wrångebäcksost – Sweden's oldest registered cheese variety – is produced, alongside other favourites such as Almnäs Tegel and Anno 1225.
📍 The View – Coffee or lunch with a view
Take a well-deserved break at The View in Brandstorp. Enjoy freshly baked bread, cakes and pastries from the on-site bakery, all served with spectacular views of Lake Vättern. A lovely spot for both a traditional Swedish fika and a leisurely lunch.
📍 Bisonfarmen – A unique farm experience
At Bisonfarmen on Mobolets Gård in Gate, you'll find locally produced bison meat and a countryside experience with a difference. Browse the farm shop for delicacies, hides and leather products, or stop for a break at the farm café. During summer, there's also a restaurant and the chance to join a bison safari.
📍 Kaggestorps Gård – Pick your own blueberries and raspberries
During summer, Kaggestorps Gård welcomes visitors to pick their own blueberries (from late July to mid-August) and raspberries (from early July to late August). The small farm shop also offers honey, farm-fresh eggs and something sweet to enjoy with your coffee.
📍 Munkebo Gård – Strawberries and a summer farm shop
At Munkebo Gård, you can pick your own strawberries in June and July. Their seasonal farm shop offers vegetables, fruit and locally produced food, all with a genuine farm-to-table feel.
📍 Grevbäcks Gris – Locally reared, high-quality pork
At Visthusboden, located at Prästgården in Grevbäck, you can buy pork from pigs reared on the farm. The pigs are born, raised and slaughtered locally, ensuring full control over production and quality. The self-service shop makes shopping easy, with payment via Swish.
📍 Hjo Bryggeri – Local drinks since 1926
End your countryside tour with a visit to Hjo Bryggeri, where traditional Swedish drinks such as svagdricka (a mild malt drink), fruit must and juniper berry drink have been produced for generations. Pick up a few bottles from the brewery shop and take a taste of Hjo home with you.
📍 Back in Hjo – Finish with dinner
Round off your food adventure with a delicious dinner at one of Hjo's restaurants. Wherever you choose to eat, you can look forward to a welcoming atmosphere and food prepared with care.
