About historical professions and today's shopping

In the early 19th century Hjo was home to everyone from potters, painters, goldsmiths and bookbinders to glaziers, carpenters, tailors and even pistol makers.

I’m Sara Johansson and I run the Tvålfabriken shop here in town. Inspired by Hjo’s history as a spa resort and our long tradition of craftsmanship, we make handmade soap. Many master craftsmen and women have worked here in Hjo through the ages.

In the early 19th century Hjo was home to everyone from potters, painters, goldsmiths and bookbinders to glaziers, carpenters, tailors and even pistol makers.

Many of these crafts can still be found in Hjo today, which is reflected in our unique shops that sell everything from ceramics and silver jewellery to leather items, wrought-iron goods and furniture, and now also handmade soap, which we think is great.
