1. Läckö Castle

On a peninsula in the Eken archipelago of Lake Vänern, you can visit Magnus De la Gardie's Läckö Castle with its enchanting castle garden - Lilla Slottsträdgården. During the summer, operas are performed in the courtyard, and just a stone's throw from the castle lies naturum Vänerskärgården – Victoriahuset, featuring a restaurant, hotel, conference facilities, and a Visitor Centre – a perfect starting point for exploring the Vänern archipelago.

2. The Grand Quarry

On Kinnekulle lies The Grand Quarry, with its amazing history stretching back 400 million years. It’s no surprise that the quarry is one of the area’s most popular attractions. Here, you can also enjoy a stunning view over Lake Vänern and a fascinating environment for hiking and exploration.

4. Old Town Hall

Located on Nya Stadens Torg in Lidköping, the magnificent Old Town Hall has served many purposes over the years, including a hunting lodge, town hall, fire station, police station, tourist information centre and museum.

On 11 February 1960, the Old Town Hall was devastated by fire, completely destroying its upper floors. A decision was quickly made to rebuild the landmark, and on 12 December 1961 it was officially reopened. Today, the Old Town Hall remains one of Lidköping's most iconic buildings and an enduring symbol of the town.

5. Munch Meadows Nature Reserve

In early summer, the scent of wild garlic fills the air in the Munch Meadows on  Kinnekulle. Wander along the many woodland paths surrounded by a carpet of fragrant wild garlic. Please note that picking wild garlic is not permitted within the nature reserve.

The reserve is also home to Mörkeklev Cave, where a natural spring flows with fresh, crystal clear water, perfect for quenching your thirst.

Did you know? Almost every native Swedish deciduous tree can be found in the Munch Meadows, although elm and ash are the dominant species.

6. Hindens Rev

Hindens Rev is a popular destination for visitors of all ages. After a scenic 5 km walk along the remarkably narrow peninsula, you'll reach the tip of the glacial moraine, where the ridge disappears beneath the waters of Lake Vänern. Around 12 km away, it re-emerges on the Dalsland side of the lake, where it is known as Hjortens Udde.

Nearby you'll also find Svalnäs, often referred to as the Riviera of Lake Vänern, with its inviting beach and beautiful lakeside setting.

7. Kinnekulle Observation Tower

If you enjoy spectacular views, this is the place to visit. The 19-metre-high Kinnekulle Viewpoint Tower was built in 1892 on the summit of Kinnekulle, 306 metres above sea level, offering breathtaking panoramic views. On a clear day, you can see up to 80–90 km across the landscape towards Skoghall, Karlstad and the Värmlandsnäs Peninsula.

The tower is also an excellent starting point for exploring the hiking trails across the top of the plateau mountain:

• Top Loop – 1.9 km
• Moose Trail – 4.7 km
• Deer Trail – 3.3 km
