Souther farm shop tour

Skaraborg boasts a wealth of farm shops for those interested in locally produced ingredients, homewares, gardening items and products from small-scale producers. We’ve put together 3 routes that take you past several real gems among farm shops. You know the kind of place – where you can easily while away an hour or three. Head out on a farm shop tour now and discover your favourites!

Hjo – Tidaholm – Falköping

Our Southern farm shop tours starts in the south-eastern corner of Skaraborg, just outside Hjo. Here we find Björkenäs Lantliv, a small and tasty shop located in a rural setting with beautiful views of Lake Vättern. It stocks a carefully selected range of products with natural ingredients, the farm’s own apple juice and kitchenwares. We now head just south of Hjo to Almnäs Bruk, a farm dating back to the Middle Ages. They have been producing carefully matured and organic cheeses here since the 1830s. In this delightful setting, by the shores of Lake Vättern, you can explore the history of the farm and buy delicious, perfectly matured cheeses.

In the tiny community of Klämmesbo, between Hjo and Tidaholm, we pull into Yans gård. An organic farm of sheep and cows, who will welcome you from the pastures as you step out of your car. The farm is also home to hens, and in their farm shop you can buy eggs, sheepskins, wool products, lamb and organic beef. We leave Yans gård and continue on to southern Tidaholm and Sveriges Minsta Saluhall. Right by the roadside and with a meadow of grazing sheep alongside stands this adorable little market hall. With seasonal products from local producers, this tiny market hall delivers culinary delights to every customer. Despite its size, you can find everything from juice, jam, rapeseed oil and eggs to potatoes, honey, crispbread, game hampers and much more.

In a rural setting along the country lanes of Tidaholm, a black wrought-iron sign guides us to our next stop, Franzéns Champinjoner. In their farm shop you will always find fresh mushrooms, locally grown without the use of pesticides, but also their own processed products, such as mushroom salt, spicy mushroom sauce or pickled mushrooms. The next stop on our tour is outside Tiarp. Housed in an old whitewashed granary from the 1800s you will find interior design and inspiration store Hem till mig. You can browse a range featuring everything from lanterns, cups and jugs to sofas, tables and large cupboards.

We continue with the interior design theme as we cross road 46 to reach our next stop, Lilla Boden på Espås. An old 18th-century storehouse building holding an array of beautiful, refurbished old furniture mixed with new and an abundance of other attractive odds and ends to enhance your home. After a further short drive we find ourselves at Löfwings Ateljé & Krog. This extended barn is a real delight. Not only can you view the beautiful nature-inspired art by artist Göran Löfwing, you can also enjoy delicious dining in the café or take a look round the shop. You will find a unique range of posters, trays and glass coasters featuring Göran’s artwork, but also a handful of other local delights on the shelves.

Our journey continues through this beautifully picturesque heritage area before stopping at Svea Tradition, a building maintenance store. Be inspired by eco-friendly paints, oils, tars, flax insulation, fittings, electrical components, cast-iron products, lanterns, lights and much more. Just the details to add that little extra to your home. After that it’s time for the last stop on our tour.
