ABOUT THE BOATS FROM VISINGSÖ

These traditional boats are from the 1800-hundreds and were used by farmers on the island Visingsö, an island located in lake Vättern. These boats were used to transport fresh produce from the island to main land in order to sell their goods in places such as Hjo. It takes these small sailing yachts around 3 to 4 hours to sail to Hjo, depending on the wind. Today you can view these boats as they visit Hjo during this yearly event in the harbour - a tradition for more than 30 years. During there visit the islands local farmers sell fresh strawberries and potatoes grown directly on the island. To illustrate the old tradition the crew are wearing traditional clothing from the late 1800-hundreds.

A tip! If you want to buy som tasty strawberries or potatoes we advice you to be there early as the produce will sell quickly.

  • Traditional boats from Visingsö will arrive in the harbor around noon (12 pm).
