Join us on a roadtrip through the countryside around Hjo. Discover churches, farm shops, local artisans, bathing spots and fun overnight options.
Our roadtrip takes you on a tour out into the countryside around Hjo, from Grevbäck and Björkenäs in the north, Mullsjödal, Mofalla and Korsberga in the west, Gate, Norra and Södra Fågelås south of Hjo, and back to Långeruder and Grebban just south-west of Hjo. By following the 10 geographical map points (marked A to I) you can stop at up to 20 visitor attractions along the way. You can do the loop with or without overnight stays. In our suggestion we have included 4 nights.

DAY 1
MAP POINT A. Grevbäck – north of Hjo
ATTRACTION 1. Overnight Stay at Hansatorp – YEAR-ROUND
We start our tour in Grevbäck. Here we spend the first night in a cottage on the Hansatorp farm in Spakås Grevbäck. On the farm there are two cottages with a total of 6 beds for a larger group. All bed linen is included, making packing easy. We have access to our own outdoor area, private bathroom and kitchen, and one of the cottages also has its own sauna.
For anyone who wants to swim, Lake Vättern is just a short walk away.

DAY 2
MAP POINT B. Björkenäs – north of Hjo
ATTRACTION 2. Detour to Kärrgårdens Glamping – SUMMER SEASON
Not far from Björkenäs Lantliv lies Kärrgårdens Glamping. So we take a little detour from the main route to try this cosier form of camping. Very lovely!
We have our own tent with outdoor kitchen, private seating area, shower options, dry toilet and barbecue area.

MAP POINT C. Mullsjödal – west of Hjo
ATTRACTION 3. Silver and Vegetables at Ljunghem – CALL AHEAD TO VISIT
On day 3 after a wonderful glamping night we continue west toward Mullsjödal and the small lake Mullsjön. Here we visit the Ljunghem farm to look at Sofia’s silver craft and perhaps buy some of the farm’s vegetables.

MAP POINT D. Mofalla – west of Hjo
ATTRACTION 4. Green Asparagus at Mofalla Lantgård – SPRING AND AUTUMN
Not far from Ljunghem we arrive in Smedskogen in Mofalla, at Mofalla Lantgård. Here in the farm shop they sell vegetables, eggs, juice and more, but above all the farm’s own green asparagus.

MAP POINT E. Korsberga – west of Hjo
ATTRACTION 5. Pick-Your-Own Flowers at Sänneryd – AUGUST
Now we near the Lilla Sänneryd farm just outside Korsberga. Here Sänneryd Garden offers flower picking in August. In the cut flower field we pick our own flowers and then bind them into a beautiful summer bouquet – quite an unusual experience in Sweden, but oh so delightful.

MAP POINT F. Gate – south of Hjo
ATTRACTION 6. Bison Safari – SUMMER SEASON
We continue south past Klämmesbo and eventually arrive in Gate. Here lies the Bison Farm where we’ll try a bison safari. A thrilling adventure where, together with the farm’s guide, you get a close-up experience among gigantic bison oxen.
We also take the chance to buy bison meat in the farm shop where bison burgers are said to be popular for a lovely summer evening barbecue. If you have your own motorhome, there is a pitch on the farm.

ATTRACTION 7. Home & Fix – YEAR-ROUND
Before heading south towards the picturesque Södra Fågelås church it’s a must to stop by Annette’s home interior shop and hair salon. In the small country shop you’ll find interior items for inside and outside use.

MAP POINT G. Södra Fågelås – south of Hjo
ATTRACTION 8. Södra Fågelås Church – SUMMER SEASON, OTHER TIMES CALL TO VISIT
Leaving Gate happy we head north toward Hjo on road 195. We stop at the Södra Fågelås Church – a charming little wooden church from the 17th century containing ceiling paintings by the noted artist Simon Gate.
ATTRACTION 9. Ceramics at Lervis – YEAR-ROUND
After the church visit we end the day at Lervis. Here on the farm shop Ellen sells her beautiful ceramics – everyday craft items such as bowls, trays and mugs.

ATTRACTION 10. Cottage Night in Äskelid – MAY-SEPTEMBER
On Ellen’s farm we stay in the cosy cottage. The cottage is split across two buildings: one with fully equipped kitchen, toilet and shower, and the other with sleeping facilities. Wi-Fi is included and you can rent bed linen. There’s also the opportunity to rent a sauna with its outdoor shower and an eco-pool for a refreshing swim. Bikes are also available to explore the beautiful surroundings.

DAY 4
MAP POINT H. Norra Fågelås – south of Hjo
We continue northward toward Hjo to visit another church, Norra Fågelås Church, and Bernhard at Vätternsparris (note! White asparagus is in season in May and June). But on the way we stop at a couple of places to swim in Vättern and then have lunch.
ATTRACTION 11. Swimming at Storebro – Lake Vättern – SUMMER SEASON, WINTER FOR THE BRAVE
The Storebro bathing place we’re heading to lies just south of Almnäs Bruk. We turn off route 195 and head a little east, pass the sports ground Landbyvallen and continue toward Lake Vättern’s shore. Here at Storebro beach we have a cosy time with a bonfire, another cup of coffee and a dip in the lake.
ATTRACTION 12. Lunch with a View at Hökensås Golf Club – YEAR-ROUND
After the swim we’re a bit hungry! So we head back out to road 195, drive a short stretch and then turn west at the sign for Hökensås Golf Club. This little lane up to the club takes us up the ridge with fantastic views over Vättern. Lunch in the golf restaurant tastes fantastic!

ATTRACTION 13. White Asparagus at Vätternsparris – MAY-JUNE
We head north again on route 195 and turn off towards Norra Fågelås. Here by the church we first stop by Bernhard at the Vätternsparris farm shop. Originally from Germany where white asparagus is a spring delicacy, Bernhard has been growing these German delicacies here in Norra Fågelås for over 10 years, with a season that runs from early May through late June.

ATTRACTION 14. Norra Fågelås Church – SUMMER SEASON, OTHER TIMES CALL TO VISIT
Right next door to Bernhard and Vätternsparris lies Norra Fågelås Church – with the same parking area. This church is said to be the oldest in Hjo, with origins from the 12th century. The church we see today dates from the late 13th century. Inside, you can see many traces of donations from wealthy families who used the church as their family church.
ATTRACTION 15. Coffee at Maple Rock Ranch – SUMMER SEASON
After the church visit we continue along the small country road north toward Hjo and stop at Maple Rock Ranch. Here we pause for a coffee break at the farm’s summer café. Beautiful views over Vättern combined with homemade cake made with the farm’s eggs – lovely! The farm also sells its own produce such as meat and vegetables.

MAP POINT I. Långeruder and Grebban – south-west of Hjo
ATTRACTION 16. Ringaberget’s Honey – CALL TO VISIT
We take a little detour to Ringaberget’s Honey. Here we pick up some organic honey which we can later enjoy in a nice cup of tea.
ATTRACTION 17. A Night in a Tiny House in the Forest – YEAR-ROUND
We decide to spend a third night. We do this in the forest at InForest. There are three self-sufficient tiny houses in the woods around Långeruder. We stay in the house Ebbe, which lies near Mullsjön. At Ebbe we enjoy a lovely evening where we order a “make-away” dinner which we cook ourselves on the grill at our tiny house. Surrounded by woodland, calm and silence we sleep soundly – just as it should be.
