Munkebo Farm

Sustainable Farming, Open Landscapes, and Local Produce

Munkebo is located 10 kilometres outside Hjo in Västergötland. Calle and Malin Indebetou run the farm, which is a modern agricultural business with land, forest, and berries. During the summer months, strawberries are cultivated, and when the harvest is abundant, a highly popular pick-your-own option is offered. In the autumn, pumpkins are also grown.

Munkebo Farm has a long and fascinating history, from being a settlement for medieval monks to serving as a cavalry estate owned by the Crown. Later, it became a thriving farm with its own dairy and brickworks, evolving into today's modern animal production.

The Indebetou family has owned the farm since the 1930s when Carl-Gustaf Indebetou purchased it. Over the years, its focus has shifted from dairy production to beef, and now to chicken production for Kronfågel. The farm also engages in crop farming, forestry, and small-scale berry cultivation.

The Greenhouse was completed in 2024

When Munkebo Farm invested in a wood gas generator for electricity production, the idea arose to use the surplus heat from the boiler room for something too. With a passion for upcycling and a tip about a greenhouse destined for demolition, they travelled to Stockholm, dismantled it, transported it home, and rebuilt it on the farm. The first growing season in the greenhouse was in 2024, featuring strawberries, raspberries, tomatoes, cucumbers, and much more.

Munkebo Farm Shop

In spring 2024, a new farm shop was built adjacent to the repurposed greenhouse. This permanent location sells homegrown berries, vegetables, and locally produced foods from the region during June and July. As autumn approaches, the farm shop reopens to offer freshly harvested pumpkins and sweetcorn.

Strawberry Farming at Munkebo

Strawberries are sold at the farm during June and July, with the primary variety being Honeoye, a dark red, juicy berry with a rich colour perfect for juice and jam. On days with sufficient supply, the popular pick-your-own option is offered.

Pumpkin Farming in Autumn

For several years, Munkebo Farm has been growing pumpkins of various shapes and sizes and if the harvest is abundant, the pumpkins are sold directly from the farm. These range from small decorative and culinary pumpkins to the traditional large orange Halloween pumpkins!
