Flyhov rock carvings
Götene

Unique history in Kinnekulle

The rock carvings were discovered a few kilometres east of Husaby in 1899 and when the site was studied, about 370 different figures were found in six locations. The figures represent people, animals, ships and wheels, for example. The “axe god” has become internationally renowned.

Not all the carvings date to the same limited period. It is now thought that the rock may have been some kind of holy and sacrificial spot visited over hundreds of years. One or more carvings may have been made each time the place was visited. Some newer carvings have been found over the top of older ones. The site is well worth a visit as it is the biggest collection of rock carvings in this area
