Skara – where play, nature, adventure, and history meet
Enjoy an unforgettable train ride with the whole family aboard a vintage train from Skara–Lundsbrunns Railways. Let the charming steam locomotive take you on a scenic route through the countryside between Skara and Lundsbrunn – a ride full of nostalgia and discovery.
Visit the Book Adventure at the Old Library in Skara – Sweden’s first permanent play-and-learn exhibition on the history of books and writing. Slide down a book, explore creative rooms for crafts and role-playing, and curl up in cozy reading corners while catching a glimpse of Sweden’s oldest book.
When it’s time for splashing and fun, Vilanbadet is the perfect choice. There’s a wading pool for the little ones, a waterslide for the adventurous, swim lanes and a fitness room for the active, as well as jacuzzis, a warm pool, and a relaxation area for those wanting to unwind.

Petersburg Outdoor Area is a recreational space close to town, featuring outdoor gyms, jogging trails, mountain bike tracks, a pumptrack, a padel court, and a 5 km illuminated trail – all set in a green, inviting environment for both exercise and leisure.
For the history interested family, Västergötland Museum is a must. Skara’s rich history comes alive through engaging exhibitions and family-friendly activities suitable for all ages in the museum.
Right next to the museum is the Veterinary Museum, where you can explore Sweden’s veterinary history – a delightful destination for families with young children interested in animals and nature.
Then continue to Fornbyn for an interactive walking tour. Follow the owl Kattis as she guides you through a historic village with maids, farmers, and wise women who share stories from the past.
