The 8 km long trail tells more about the history of Ed's landscape formulation. In Dals-Ed you can see many traces of when the big ice sheet pulled back at the end of the Ice Age. The ice began to withdraw from Dalsland about 13,000 years ago. A landscape that had been under a kilometer thick ice sheet, covered for thousands of years was slowly formed.
About 20,000 years ago, the ice sheet began to melt over Scandinavia. Under a period of 12 000 years the edge of the ice did not move at all in this area. At Ed, the ice edge pulled back a piece. The sea reached at that time up to the ice in Ed.
The melting water of a widespread ice area was drained to the valley Stora Le and an ice-river was formed that poured into the ocean outside. The ice river ran into a tunnel at the bottom of the ice under high pressure and at high speed. The eroded surface and lots of gravel and other materials gathered in the ocean outside.
