Högaliden Disc Golf Park
Hjo
Since summer 2023, Högaliden Disc Golf Park has offered 18 exciting holes at Högaliden Outdoor Recreation Area. Disc golf is an activity for everyone!
Högaliden Disc Golf Park is an 18-hole course with varied terrain and levels of difficulty. The course was playable from spring 2023 and is located at Högaliden Outdoor Recreation Area, 6 kilometres west of Hjo.
At the first tee (next to the car park) you will find an information board where you can read more about the course, rules of play and technical tips.
Högaliden Disc Golf Park is maintained by the non-profit association Hjo Disc, which also built the course on land owned by Hjo Municipality, with support from Leader Östra Skaraborg.
It is free to play, but you are welcome to make a voluntary contribution to the association. Information about this can be found at the start.
You will need to bring your own discs, but discs can also be borrowed free of charge from Kulturkvarteret (Bangatan 1 B) in Hjo.
A QUICK INTRODUCTION TO DISC GOLF
The goal of disc golf is quite simple: to complete the course using as few throws as possible and get the disc into the basket.
It may sound easy, but the challenge is also about controlling the disc’s flight past obstacles and course difficulties.
A course usually consists of 9 or 18 holes with varying difficulty and terrain. No two courses are the same.
Difficulty on a disc golf course depends on:
- the length of each hole in relation to its par
- obstacles such as trees and bushes
- changes in elevation
Even wind and gusts are considered obstacles, making the course more challenging for most players.
A QUICK INTRODUCTION TO THE DISCS
The discs used in disc golf are different from the frisbees most people are familiar with. They are:
- heavier than a regular frisbee
- different in shape
- designed to fly in a very different way
An experienced player can throw around 80–100 metres with most discs. The best players in the world can throw 140–150 metres in calm conditions.
Disc golf discs are divided into four classes:
- Putter
- Midrange
- Fairway driver
- Distance driver
All discs—even within the same class—have different flight characteristics, weights and plastics. The disc you choose makes a big difference, and different discs are suited to different situations.
For new players, it is a good idea to start with easy-to-throw discs such as putters or midrange discs, and to avoid drivers at first. Putters and midrange discs are versatile and can be used for most throws on the course.
Once you can throw straight and have better control of the disc, you can move on and try drivers.
