Nature reserve Heråmaden and Bastedalen
Dals-Ed

South of the Tresticklan National Park

Heråmaden includes unaffected forests along the Herå River. The nature reserve is almost five square kilometers large. Parts of the Heråmaden were used for mowing as late as the 1960s and fragments of the mowing barns remain today. Today, agriculture has lost its importance in this region and is now known for bird life, recreation and water management.

Wildlife

The wetlands in the reserve are nesting sites for many bird species. On the bog islands and in the surrounding of older forests, there are species such as owls, barn owls, night herons and crows. In winter, there are wolf tracks and overwintering golden eagles that contribute to the area's wilderness character. Parts of the Heråmaden were used for mowing as late as the 1960s and fragments of the mowing barns remain today. Trail & Cottage Bastedalen

The hiking trail in the reserve connects to the hiking trails in Tresticklan National Park and further into Norway. The old the Bastedalen croft can be used as resting cabin for hikers.

How to get there

Heråmaden is located about 10 km west of Ed and immediately south of Tresticklan National Park. From the road Ed – Nössemark, take the exit towards Klevmarken and drive to the small village. Parking possibilities about 200 m before the roadblock.
